I have both a Raspberry Pi 2 B+ and a Raspberry Pi 3 B. The Pi 2 is currently just doing some Scrypt mining with 12 Gridseeds, losing money but doing it just as hobby and talking point basically. I'm at a point I'd like to retire the Gridseeds to a box and just run 1 or 2 Masternodes, but I just can't afford the 1000 Dash or 2000 Dash for 2 Masternodes.

It sounds like Evolution is going to create a share program that will remove this necessity but in the mean time is there any way of getting involved? Is the share program just around the corner? Lastly, I currently have a 400GB data cap to use for gaming, streaming and anything else on my home connection through Mediacom Xstream50 package.

What type of monthly data can I expect. The only other provider is Windstream for an unlimited plan but then I'd sacrifice connection speed to like 6Mb/s available locally. Last, raspberry pi's aren't the best devices for servers and networking. If you are using anything USB on your pi you will have bandwidth problems. On top of that, it's Ethernet is megabit only I believe. Maybe they upgraded the pi3 to gigabit, not sure, but it still suffers the same issues with USB and Ethernet sharing on board bandwidth. So if you plan to connect a hard drive to it, or a USB wifi dongle, or anything else like that a raspberry pi is not the way to go. I run a small remote filesystem for myself and found a pi like board where this issue doesn't exist, and it has a SATA port.

It's called a banana pi. I recommend anyone i know considering a raspberry pi for networking related stuff to use those instead. This is good information to know! Based upon a masternode tutorial for the RPi, it appeared people were having success doing this. I do know they mentioned using ethernet and there were no mentions of USB H/D, perhaps for the reasons you mentioned. As for the 100% up time, I obviously can't make guarantees, but I'm not sure it'd necessarily be so much of losing money aside from some neglible electrcity costs. Rather its probably opportunity losses, such as if power was on I would have made this much or if the connection was up I would have made this much, but since it wasn't the opportunity was lost.

So then the question becomes does the applicable fees associated with share programs offset the opportunity losses that occur from any down time that does occur. I'd guess I'd have to track my uptime percentage over time to see. Thanks for the input! In the mean time is there any way of getting involved?
